Play offs

Cheering Jack on in his play off basketball game!

This week both Jonas & Jack have both baseball and basketball games and practice. It's a busy (but fun) week. Tonight was the first of Jack's basketball play off games. Jack's team won (by 20 points).

Last night Mom finished reading Cutting for Stone, a 600 page book (which I LOVED TOO). Mom read it all in 4 days! This is a great indicator that she is making strides back to her pre treatment self. She has ALWAYS been a voracious reader but during the last 6 and half months of pain meds and PAIN she was not reading many books. She would read short magazine articles or emails and blogs. So it was fun to see that she couldn't put the book down!

LIttle Gold Men

A beautiful day to watch Jonas' baseball game

Gma & Jonas after his game!
It was a lovely afternoon game! Jonas is now in the mini minors which is a machine pitch division. He LOVES playing and it is fun to watch his JOY FILLED face during the game.

The last trip to the chemo room!

When we walked into the chemo room today Beverley, R.N., said "Zeb it's your last day of Chemo!"
The nurses in that Chemo room are as nice as can be and COMPETENT TOO (as my mom likes to say!)
Oh lucky day, our dear friends, Hil & Yog, happened to be visiting the Cancer Center today just as Mom finished her treatment! We twisted their arms to join us for lunch! We couldn't have planned it any better.

When Mom was first diagnosed, Yog & Hil were huge supporters for us and they set up this blog for us!

Mom picked Tupelo Junction for the celebratory lunch! Here we are toasting, Mom is having a Mimosa!
The plan, as I understand it, will be to have a repeat PET scan in about 4 weeks. The results will be great and Mom will start on a pill form of chemo. The pill is a milder treatment than the IV/Port treatment that Mom just finished.
Her hair will start growing back in during the next few months and as you all know--she hopes it is curly hair that is beautiful and easy to manage.
Words do not express our gratitude for all of the love and support you have given us during these last 6 and 1/2 months. THANK YOU THANK YOU! Much Love!

Sunny Sunday!

Luke to the rescue at the apple store! Mom bought a new iPhone and it was so helpful to have Luke here to sync all her old data to the new phone! The sales gal had never seen such a "OLD"iPhone and couldn't get over actually seeing such an OLD iPhone!
Crazy YUMMY dinner 2 nights in a row!

Snuggle and chat time on Gma's bed!

Palapa time!

A great sunny afternoon to hang out in the Palapa and chat!

Luke & Gma walking in downtown SB

Today was the MOST active Mom has been in MONTHS! She enjoyed her outing with 2 of her darling grandsons!

Mom had good news this week from her blood tests. Her red blood cells were higher (in a good way) than they have been in months. She credits this to the 'blood builder' she has been taking ( THANK YOU SYDNEY!) and she is feeling better. She is still fatigued but today she was able to go downtown and walk around a bit with Luke and Jack while Sara & Lucy went shopping! It has been a wonderful weekend with (some of) our KC family here! It's been FUN and cozy!

1 more week to go

Today Mom had chemo. Next Wednesday is her last chemo treatment (this kind of chemo) and then if all goes as plans she will take a break for a few weeks, get a scan and then start on a milder chemo (maybe a pill form).

Funny

At Chemo last Wednesday, they had to draw blood from Mom's port (to test her for the bracha gene) and the blood was not flowing easily from the port so the nurse was asking Mom to cough to make the blood flow into the vile. I said "Albert Pujols, tattoos, Jane and I getting tattoos all over our arms" and boom her blood really started to pump and filled up the vile!

HA! a little chemo/blood drawing humor for you - HA- you are welcome!

Mom & Jonas after his 9am game
Today we all cheered on Jonas at 9am and then went back to cheer on Jack at 1:00. It was a nice social visit at Jack's game seeing lots of friends (so cool to see Cindy & Nancy) and even our sweet Paige (UCSB student now but from Merced)!
This week we heard the good news that Mom's blood count looked much better. No need for a blood transfusion.

game day, Friday

When I saw Mom up and playing Uncle Wiggily with Jeremy I knew I had a photo op for the blog! (which has become rare these days, in fact she told me a couple weeks ago that I wasn't to take photos of her) I asked Mom if she wanted me to get a hat for her or shoot her au natural and she said "oh I don't mind!" So here is Mom and Jeremy this afternoon.
After dinner, Jonas REALLY wanted us to play hearts ... so we did. I took this opportunity to work on my photography and get a little artsy with the 'hand' shots.
At the end of our card game my Aunt Erma called to see if we had watched the Laker game. Mom took the phone and replied with "yes, what do you think of Jeremy Lin...?" and went on talking about the NBA like a ESPN sportscaster! Very Fun!

The Count Down is on......

I realize I have not posted lately. Sorry to alarm anyone and thank you for checking in with us.
It's been mostly the same.
Tomorrow is another Dr. appt, with the oncologist, and then her 3rd to last chemo treatment.
